There are a number of happenings this busy month beyond the Archives, and some perhaps of interest to those who support us here on Salem hill include a September 4 evening talk on Bethania at the Forsyth County Genealogical Society, a late afternoon talk at Old Salem on September 13 on interpreting difficult history and an evening presentation on local newspaper history at the Walkertown Library on September 18.
A complete schedule of this year’s Lunchtime Lectures is available below as a graphic, and in text and as a pdf file on our Web site. There you will also find links out to selected videos of previous talks. Please join us if you can. Happy Fall, to all!
The Archives will be closed to the public the week of August 6-10, 2018. This will enable us to do a vault audit and to install a new alarm system in the building.
Our next Family History Docent training will be September 11, 2018, from 9:00 am until 12:00 noon. Docents receive three hours special training in our genealogy resources and in return agree to thirty hours of volunteering over three months, during which time they will be assisting our family history researchers and helping create resource finding guides. There is a small fee to cover the costs of materials, refundable if you complete your service with us. Contact us for more info or to sign up.
Archivist Elliott is speaking at Advent and New Philadelphia Moravian churches over the next month. If you’d like a program for your congregation or civic group about the Archives or on something from church or local history, ask us. We are here to serve you and your communities!
