Rare Book Collection

The rare book collection of the Archives of the Moravian Church in America, Southern Province, is comprised of more than 4,000 volumes dated from 1564 to the present day. This collection includes texts, including periodicals, by and about Moravians and Moravian history and culture, as well as our Bible collection and our complete collection of the Daily Text dating to 1728. The rare book collection is stored in the Vault and volumes may only be accessed by making an appointment in our Reading Room. When we receive duplicates of texts in the Vault, we catalog them as part of our Research Library, which is available on the 1st floor for use in the Reading Room without an appointment, provided there is space available. Most of the rare book collection has not been cataloged, and staff only have access to a partial inventory of our holdings. We ask for your patience as we work to make our books and periodicals more discoverable and accessible.
