Reprographic Services

Pfaff Family tintype from the Archives image collection

Researchers may request reproductions of materials in the Moravian Archives collections for use in personal research. The Archives will not copy materials if doing so would violate copyright law, donor restrictions, or organizational restrictions, or if copying risks damaging the materials. The Archives also reserves the right to set limits on the amount of copying it will undertake. Requests may be denied if the item is too fragile or too large to be scanned with available equipment, or if the size of the request will place an unreasonable strain on available staff resources. The Archives charges fees for reproductions in order to offset the cost of producing the copies. We are a private facility and are supported only by the Moravian Church and the donations of individual supporters of the Archives. Our modest user fees are a necessary part of our budget.

Notice Warning Concerning Copyright Restrictions

The copyright law of the United States (title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specific conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research. If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of fair use, that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.

Personal Cameras

Researchers who visit the Archives may use personal cameras to photograph materials for personal use in research. In some cases, copyright law or other restrictions may prohibit the use of cameras. Researchers must turn off the camera’s flash and silence any camera sounds. Professional photography and videography equipment is not allowed in the reading room.
